Annual Day 2.0 of the state-of-the-art and white tall shining
beauty, Veronica Auditorium at the Patna Women’s College

A grand function marked the Annual Day 2.0 of the state-of-the-art and white tall shining
beauty, Veronica Auditorium at the Patna Women’s College for the students of final year on
Saturday. Shri Vivek Kumar Singh, IAS, Development Commissioner, Government of Bihar
graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. While Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor
,Patna University and Shri Deepak Kumar Singh, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Dept of
Education, Government of Bihar, were the Guest of Honour. Bandana Preyashi, IAS,
Secretary, Department of Art, Culture and Youth, Government of Bihar presided over the
function as the special guest. Other dignitaries present included Principal of the college Dr.
Sister M. Rashmi A.C. and Dr. Sister M. Tanisha Reema A.C., Superior, Avila Convent and
Vice Principal of the college. The function began at 11:30 am at the newly built auditorium with
the arrival of the Chief Guest. The program started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by
the distinguished dignitaries and the Principal of the college Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C. It was
followed by an opening dance and a welcome song presented by students. Addressing an
impressive gathering of guests, top university officials, alumnae, students, and the college staff,
the Principal said that the completion of this new auditorium was a milestone in the history of the
College. She paid tributes to the founders of the institution, adding that it was their labour that
this College, which is at the forefront of women empowerment, could become a reality. She said
“It is a matter of great pride for us that Patna Women’s College moves towards academic
excellence and empowerment of women with each passing day. It gives us a deep sense of
fulfillment when we see our students setting milestones in different fields.” The Principal’s
speech was followed by a video presentation of the Annual Report 2022 which traced the
progress of the college in the past two years. The highlight of the report was the innovations that
the college management brought in to fight the challenges posed by Covid-19 and the resultant
prolonged lockdown.


The programme continued with the address of Prof Ajay Kumar Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor,
Patna University. While speaking to the students, he praised the College for rendering an
outstanding service for the education of girls. He said, “I am very fortunate to witness this grand
auditorium and would like to congratulate the college authority for the same.” He also
emphasised on health of students and suggested them to avoid junk food. “Health is a kind
concern. Students should take care of their nutritional aspects of health,” he said. The
performances by students included ‘Ganga Dance’ based on Bhupen Hazarika’s famous

rendition Ganga behti ho kyon; Rajasthani folk dance ‘Tera Taali’; and a thematic dance
‘Shauryam Daksham Yuddhey’. Meanwhile, Shri Deepak Kumar Singh, IAS, Additional Chief
Secretary, Dept of Education, Government of Bihar extended wishes and congratulated the
college.“This institution is a role model for the entire state,”he said.
On the occasion Bandana Preyashi, IAS, Secretary, Department of Art, Culture and Youth,
Government of Bihar said “Patna Women’s College has set the highest standards in cultural
programs. This program is by far the best I have seen and this college is carrying on its legacy.
It is an iconic institution which has made the name globally.” Addressing the students she said,
“This auditorium is full of young torch bearers. Those seated here are the privileged and they
have to be the torch bearers who could not fulfill their dreams and I can witness hope for a
change. Women bring difference and I want to see the world populated with “Madams” in a
world of “Sirs”. For this, I want you students to break that glass ceiling and come to the posts”,
she added. She also offered an award for excellence in Botany in memory of her late sister
Shweta Utkarsh Memorial Award and a cheque of rupees1 lakh to the college as a token of
gratitude for the same.


Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Kumar Singh, IAS, Development Commissioner, Government
of Bihar said that he was totally bowled over by the grandeur. He said “Patna Women’s College
is a place worth celebrating. This magnificent auditorium is an asset for the college and who
comes here will go back with very fond memories.” He also encouraged the students “You all
must be a know all. There is a shortage of women at levels. Therefore, you girls should come
forward and give yourself extra curricular edge.” “Humanism should be above all”, he added.
The Supervisors involved in the construction of Veronica Auditorium were also felicitated on the
occasion. The toppers of 2018-21 batch and 2019-22 batch including masters and PGDiploma
students were awarded with gold medals and certificates for their best performances. The
Annual Report of 2022 was also released on the day. The awards were announced by
Dr. Saher Rahman and Dr. Soofia Fatima. The function was compered by Assistant Professor
Taniya Banerjee and student anchors Vartika and Srishti Tiwari. Alok John, Dean NICCS,
delivered the vote of thanks. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
