The Department of Microbiology organized a Display Competition on Tuesday 4th of March 2025, focusing on the theme “Microbes as Probiotics.” The event aimed to highlight the beneficial role of microorganisms in food and health, emphasizing their probiotic properties.
Participants showcased their culinary skills by preparing probiotic-based dishes, integrating scientific knowledge with creativity in cooking. The competition provided an opportunity for students to explore the diverse applications of microbes in food and nutrition.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with a variety of probiotic-rich foods displayed, such as fermented dairy products, traditional fermented foods, and innovative probiotic-based recipes. The judges of the event comprised of Dr. Pinky Prasad, Head, Department of Botany and Dr. Sumeet Ranjan, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology evaluated the dishes based on concept, taste and presentation.
The winners of the event were announced at the conclusion of the event, the first position was secured by Group-2 with it’s members Aliya Jawed, Priyambada, Ishita Verma and Nikhat Khanam the second position was given to Group-4 with it’s members Annet Anand, Unnati Kumari, Mohsina Hassan and Sakshi Sharma, followed by Group-3 with it’s members Soujanya Chatterjee, Shreya Kumari, Priya Kumari and Vaishnavi who secured the third position. The entire event was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Jaya Philip, Head, Department of Microbiology, along with faculty members Dr. Preeti Swarupa, Dr. Niti Yashwardhini and Dr. Swetnisha.
The competition successfully merged microbiology with culinary arts, inspiring students to appreciate the role of beneficial microbes in food science and human health.
