Chief Minister Flags Off Women's Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 Glory Tour

Patna, October 14, 2024: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today flagged off the “Glory Tour” of the Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2024 in a ceremony held at 1 Aney Marg, Patna. This tour is being organized to raise awareness about the tournament, which will take place from November 11 to 20, 2024, at the Rajgir International Sports Complex. Teams from India, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand will compete in the prestigious tournament.

Before flagging off the tour, the Chief Minister unveiled the tournament trophy and handed it over to students from Eklavya Sports School, who will accompany the tour. In a symbolic gesture, the students presented hockey sticks to the Chief Minister, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, the Sports Minister, and other dignitaries as a mark of respect.

The Chief Minister also inspected the specially designed bus that will carry the trophy during the Glory Tour, before officially flagging it off. The tour aims to promote sports culture in Bihar, increase women’s participation in sports, and raise awareness about the national sport of hockey, with a focus on making the upcoming international tournament a success.

The Glory Tour will travel through the states of Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, and Jharkhand, as well as all 38 districts of Bihar, from October 14 to November 10. Local administrations will organize welcome events at each stop to celebrate the arrival of the trophy and generate enthusiasm for the tournament.

This marks the first time Bihar will host the Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, an international sporting event. India, the reigning champion from 2023, currently holds the trophy, making the country’s participation in the event even more significant.

The Chief Minister emphasized the state’s commitment to the holistic development of sports and athletes, particularly women, and noted that Bihar’s hosting of the tournament is a result of these efforts. On August 29, 2024, he inaugurated the Rajgir Sports Complex and its AstroTurf hockey ground, and on October 5, he unveiled the tournament’s mascot and logo.

Key dignitaries present at the event included Water Resources Minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Sports Minister Surendra Mehta, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretaries Deepak Kumar and Dr. S. Siddharth, Director General of Police Alok Raj, and other senior officials from the sports department and the Bihar State Sports Authority
