Patna, December 2: Governor of Bihar and Chancellor of Patna University, Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, emphasized the importance of having a clear goal in life and contributing to societal welfare while addressing the annual convocation ceremony of Patna University held at Veronica Hall, Patna Women’s College.
Speaking to the gathering of graduates, scholars, and faculty members, the Governor urged the youth to transition from being job seekers to becoming job providers, suggesting entrepreneurship and startups as viable pathways for economic and social contributions.
Governor Arlekar highlighted the continuous nature of education, stating that learning is a lifelong process. He emphasized that education is not confined to textbooks but extends to interactions with people from all walks of life. Addressing the degree and medal recipients, he reminded them of the vital role their families have played in their achievements and urged them to express gratitude to their parents and mentors by dedicating their success to them.
“Your accomplishments are not yours alone; they reflect the unwavering support and guidance of your family and loved ones,” the Governor said.
Urging the students to work hard and set clear goals in life, the Governor underlined that their success, progress, and fame are intricately linked to the society that nurtures them. He called upon the graduates to use their education for the greater good of society.
“The youth must strive to achieve their goals through diligence and resilience. They should dedicate their skills and knowledge for the benefit of society,” he said.
The Governor stressed the need for young people to break away from the traditional mindset of seeking government or private jobs and instead focus on creating opportunities for others. He motivated the youth to embark on entrepreneurial journeys, reassuring them that challenges faced along the way would eventually dissipate with persistent efforts.
“Our youth should have the courage to chart their own path. Starting a business or a startup is an excellent way to contribute to society and foster self-reliance,” he remarked.
Highlighting the government’s initiatives to support startups, the Governor announced that every university in Bihar would establish an Entrepreneurship Development Cell to provide students with the necessary guidance and assistance to become successful entrepreneurs.
During the convocation ceremony, 47 researchers were awarded Ph.D. degrees, and 43 students were honored with gold medals for their exceptional academic performance. Governor Arlekar congratulated the recipients and extended his best wishes for their future endeavors. He encouraged them to uphold the prestige and dignity of Patna University through their conduct and contributions to society.
“You are the torchbearers of Patna University’s legacy. Let your achievements and values reflect the university’s commitment to excellence,” he said.
Padma Shri Chamu Krishna Shastri, Chairman of the Indian Language Committee, delivered the convocation address, emphasizing the importance of integrating Indian languages into mainstream education and fostering cultural pride among the youth.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Patna University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, Registrar Prof. Shalini, members of the University Senate, Syndicate, Academic Council, and Heads of various faculties and postgraduate departments. Principals of affiliated colleges, directors of institutes, university officials, faculty members, students, and their families were also present at the ceremony.
The convocation concluded with a resounding pledge from the graduates to dedicate their knowledge and skills to the betterment of society while striving for personal and professional growth. The event not only celebrated academic accomplishments but also served as a platform to inspire the youth to become changemakers in their communities.
