Patna, November 29: The Patna chapter of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO) organized a solidarity march on the occasion of the United Nations-designated International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The march commenced from Maitri Shanti Bhavan, passed through Ramna Road, and culminated in a gathering at the gates of Patna College.
Slogans such as “No to war, yes to peace,” “Stop the genocide in Palestine,” “Punish those responsible for the deaths of 16,000 children,” and “Free Palestine from Israeli occupation” resonated throughout the march, along with chants condemning imperialism and calling Israeli leaders war criminals.
Prominent leaders participating in the march included AIPSO State Secretary Anish Ankur, Prachiya Prabha editor Vijay Kumar Singh, Patna District Secretary Bhola Sharma, Kulbhushan Gopal, and Jay Prakash.
Addressing the gathering, Ghulam Sarwar Azad, editor of the Urdu fortnightly Gulzar Sarwar, emphasized that “War is the enemy of peace. Palestine is being subjugated through mass killings, supported by American imperialism.”
Academic Raushan described the Palestinian struggle as a “nationalist fight against imperialism.” Highlighting the region’s geopolitical significance, he stated that “48% of the world’s hydrocarbon resources pass through Palestine, making it a battleground for control.” He called for international justice and demanded that Israel’s Prime Minister be declared a war criminal.
Retired army officer and social activist Arvind Prasad likened the situation in Palestine to “an open-air prison,” condemning the systematic killing of unarmed civilians. He criticized the global media for ignoring such atrocities, drawing parallels with exploitative practices in Congo, where natural resources are forcibly extracted.
Patna District Secretary of AIPSO, Bhola Sharma, accused India’s ruling BJP of aligning with Israel, a move he said diverges from the country’s traditional foreign policy.
Activist Shagufa Rasheed expressed shame over international support for Israel, urging collective efforts to halt the war.
Other speakers, including social worker Udayan, criticized the global silence over the destruction of Gaza. “The massacre surpasses even the horrors of Hitler’s regime,” he said, pointing out the strategic interests in the region’s oil reserves.
Several participants, including Rajeev Ranjan, highlighted the importance of global solidarity. “This march sends a message to the world that oppression and occupation will not go unchallenged,” he said, urging citizens to join the campaign against Israeli actions.
Patna District Farmers’ Union convener Gopal Sharma recalled India’s historical support for Palestine under leaders like Yasser Arafat, contrasting it with the current government’s growing ties with Israel.
Other notable participants included film actor Ramesh Singh, social activist Shaukat Ali, ISCWF leader Anand Sharma, theater artist Gautam Gulal, and Dr. Ankit.
The event underscored the pressing need for international attention on Palestine and highlighted the role of grassroots movements in shaping public opinion.
