GST Savings Festival Launched on Navratri: Big Relief for Consumers with Reduced Tax Rates

New Delhi/Patna: On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, the Government of India has announced the launch of the “GST Savings Festival”, giving a major relief to common citizens. Under this initiative, the government has reduced Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on several essential goods and services, ensuring that consumers get products at lower prices.

99% of Goods and Services Now Tax-Free or Under Minimal GST

According to official information, 99% of goods and services are either tax-free, or charged only 5% to 18% GST. Essential commodities are categorized under 0% or 5% GST slabs, making them more affordable for households across the country.

Relief for Farmers and Households

  • Agricultural equipment and fertilizers are now taxed at only 5% GST.
  • Healthcare services and life-saving medicines have been reduced from 18% GST to zero tax.
  • Dairy products will now attract only 7-12% GST instead of 12%.

Education and Everyday Essentials Get Cheaper

  • School books and notebooks are completely tax-free.
  • Footwear and ready-made garments will now attract only 7% GST, down from 12%.
  • Stationery items such as globes are placed under 5-12% GST slabs.

Vehicles and Electronics at Reduced Prices

The government has also brought down GST rates on vehicles and electronics, leading to significant savings:

  • Tractor (up to 1500 cc engine): Approximate savings of ₹40,000
  • Small cars (up to 1500 cc): Approximate savings of ₹70,000
  • Motorcycles/Scooters (up to 350 cc): Approximate savings of ₹8,000
  • Television (up to 25 inches): Approximate savings of ₹3,500
  • Air Conditioner: Approximate savings of ₹2,300

Prime Minister’s Message

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated: “GST has not only simplified the tax system but also benefited both consumers and traders. Our goal is to bring savings and happiness to every household in India.”

The GST Savings Festival 2025, launched during Navratri, is set to bring direct financial relief to millions of households. With reduced GST rates on agriculture, healthcare, education, clothing, electronics, and daily-use items, the government aims to make essential products more affordable while ensuring a transparent tax system.
