The Mokama Assembly constituency has once again emerged as Bihar’s most high-profile and volatile seat, with two powerful strongmen — Anant Singh and Surajbhan Singh — pitted against each other in a fierce electoral battle. While Anant Singh himself is contesting this time, Surajbhan’s wife is in the fray from the opposing side.
Tensions, long anticipated between the rival camps, escalated dramatically after Jan Suraj Party supporter Dularchand Yadav was shot dead in broad daylight on Thursday. The killing has sent shockwaves across the region, prompting immediate political reactions.
Reacting to the incident, former MLA Anant Singh denied any involvement in the murder and instead accused his rival, Surajbhan Singh, of being behind the attack. “I have not done anything. This murder was planned by Surajbhan,” Singh said, claiming that his convoy came under provocation during campaigning in the Taal area.
According to Singh, while his team was canvassing for votes, they encountered around 100–150 vehicles blocking the road. “When they saw me, they started shouting slogans against us. We didn’t react and continued moving forward with about 40 vehicles. But when only 10 vehicles were left behind, my supporters were stopped and attacked. It was during this chaos that the shooting happened,” Singh explained.
He further alleged that Surajbhan Singh wanted to create disturbances to spoil the election atmosphere in Mokama. Anant Singh described Dularchand Yadav as someone who had once worked closely with him. “Dularchand was my disciple. He used to drive Surajbhan’s car during the day. He was the first to raise his hand, and then the incident took place,” Singh claimed.
The murder has intensified the already heated political rivalry between the two camps, turning Mokama into a flashpoint ahead of the elections. Police have increased security in the area, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
