In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Bihar’s Mokama region, local strongman Dularchand Yadav was shot dead in broad daylight on Thursday. The gruesome killing took place in the Taal area of Mokama, known for its volatile political and criminal history. Preliminary reports suggest that Yadav was attacked while campaigning for his nephew, Piyush Priyadarshi, who is contesting the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections as a Jan Suraj Party candidate.
Eyewitnesses said that Yadav, who was considered an influential figure in the region, was ambushed by unidentified assailants who opened fire at close range, killing him on the spot. Panic gripped the area as people ran for safety amid the sound of gunfire. Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and began an investigation.
The murder has taken a political turn with allegations being directed towards former MLA and controversial figure Anant Singh, a name synonymous with Mokama’s turbulent political past. Several locals and political observers have accused Singh’s camp of orchestrating the attack, though official confirmation from the police is still awaited.
Police officials have stated that the body has been sent for postmortem and forensic experts have collected evidence from the crime scene. “We are investigating the case from all angles, including political rivalry,” said a senior police officer. Security has been tightened in Mokama and surrounding regions to prevent any further escalation.
Sources say that Yadav had been actively campaigning in support of his nephew, Piyush Priyadarshi, in recent weeks. His presence was believed to have strengthened the Jan Suraj Party’s position in the area, which has historically seen intense contests between powerful local factions.
Residents and supporters gathered in large numbers outside Yadav’s residence after news of his death spread, raising slogans and demanding immediate justice. Many described the killing as an assault on democracy itself. “He was working for change and peace in the region. Killing him during election season is nothing short of murdering democracy,” said one of his supporters.
The killing of Dularchand Yadav has once again brought the focus back on Bihar’s deep-rooted nexus of crime and politics, particularly in Mokama — a constituency long dominated by strongmen and muscle power. As the investigation continues, political temperatures in the region are expected to rise in the days ahead.
