Police Reach MP Pappu Yadav’s Residence With Arrest Warrant in 35-Year-Old Case

Patna witnessed heightened political tension on Monday after a police team arrived at the Mandiri residence of Purnea Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, carrying an arrest warrant issued by a special MP-MLA court in connection with a nearly 35-year-old case.

The sudden move triggered a standoff between law enforcement officials and the MP’s supporters, who gathered in large numbers to protest the attempted arrest. The atmosphere around the residence remained tense for several hours as police insisted they were acting on court orders, while Pappu Yadav termed the action politically motivated and aimed at harassing him.

Arrest Warrant in Fraud and Threat Case

According to official sources, the arrest warrant was issued by the MP-MLA Special Court in a case related to alleged fraud and criminal intimidation dating back to 1995. Along with Pappu Yadav, two others — Shailendra Prasad and Chandra Narayan Prasad — have been named as accused in the case.

When the police team presented the warrant, the MP reportedly refused to accept its validity, following which supporters rushed to the spot and blocked the officers from carrying out the arrest. Police officials maintained that they were duty-bound to enforce the court’s directive and would not leave without taking necessary legal action.

Allegations Linked to Property Misuse

Media reports indicate that the case stems from a complaint filed by Vinod Bihari Lal, who alleged that his house was taken on rent through fraudulent means. According to the complaint, the property was later used as an office linked to Pappu Yadav without disclosing its actual purpose at the time of the agreement.

The complainant further claimed that when he objected, he was allegedly subjected to pressure and threats. The case has remained pending for decades, with previous warrants reportedly failing to be executed.

Court Orders Attachment of Property

Recently, MP-MLA Special Court Judge Praveen Kumar Malviya also ordered the attachment of property belonging to the accused, citing their repeated absence from court proceedings and non-cooperation with the judicial process. The court observed that strict measures had become necessary to ensure compliance with the law.

Following this order, police have now intensified efforts to arrest the accused persons, leading to the dramatic developments in Patna.

Political Reactions

Pappu Yadav has strongly denied the allegations, calling the police action an act of political vendetta. He claimed that old cases were being revived selectively to silence opposition voices ahead of key political developments in Bihar.

Meanwhile, the administration has reiterated that the move is purely legal and based on judicial directions, not political considerations.

As the situation continues to unfold, the incident has once again brought the spotlight on the long-pending legal cases involving political figures and the enforcement of court orders in Bihar.
