Muzaffarpur: In a major crackdown against corruption, the Bihar Vigilance Department has arrested a police sub-inspector while accepting a bribe of ₹75,000. The accused officer, Roshan Kumar, was posted at Saraiya police station in Muzaffarpur district. He was caught red-handed near a high school in the Karja police station area while taking the bribe from a complainant regarding a land dispute.
According to officials, Roshan Kumar, a 2019-batch sub-inspector, had demanded a bribe of ₹1 lakh from a complainant to submit a favorable supervision report in a land registry case. The complainant, who had already suffered due to a wrongful land registration, reported the demand to the Vigilance Department. Acting on this information, a special team was formed under the leadership of DSP Satyendra Ram of the Vigilance Department, Patna.
Following a well-planned operation, the Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Roshan Kumar while he was accepting ₹75,000 from the complainant. The operation was executed near a high school in the Karja police station area, where Roshan Kumar had called the complainant under the pretense of his examination duty. As soon as he received the money, the vigilance team apprehended him on the spot.
The Vigilance Department has been actively taking action against corrupt officials in Bihar. Just a few days ago, two sub-inspectors posted at Khusrupur police station in Patna were arrested for accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. They were caught near LNJP Hospital under Shastri Nagar police station limits. Both officers were subsequently sent to jail after legal proceedings.
After Roshan Kumar’s arrest, DSP Satyendra Ram confirmed that the sub-inspector would be presented before the court and sent to judicial custody. The Vigilance Department is also investigating whether other officials were involved in the bribery case. Further interrogation of the accused is underway, and legal proceedings will follow accordingly.
The arrest of Roshan Kumar highlights the Bihar government’s commitment to curbing corruption within the police force. The Vigilance Department’s continued crackdown on corrupt officials is expected to restore public confidence in law enforcement agencies. Officials have urged citizens to report such cases to help eliminate corruption from the system.
