Senthil Kumar’s statement referring to Hindi-speaking states as ‘cow urine states’ On the second day of the winter session, December 5, DMK MP Senthil Kumar made a controversial statement in the Lok Sabha. He ridiculed the BJP’s victories in three states, labeling them as ‘cow urine states,’ primarily populated by Hindi speakers. This statement triggered a lively debate, and on the following day, December 6, Senthil Kumar apologized in the Lok Sabha, acknowledging that his comments unintentionally offended some members and individuals, expressing regret for it.
Mahua Moitra’s expulsion from Parliament On December 8, the parliamentary membership of TMC MP Mahua Moitra was revoked, leading to significant uproar. The charges against Moitra were presented in the Lok Sabha through the report of the Ethics Committee. Despite Moitra’s request to address the Lok Sabha, the Speaker denied permission based on parliamentary rules. Subsequently, a proposal to revoke Mahua Moitra’s parliamentary membership was put forward and approved. This decision sparked intense protests by opposition MPs both inside and outside Parliament.

Opposition parties demanded explanations from the Home Minister, resulting in chaotic scenes. Consequently, 146 MPs were suspended from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the entire session.

On December 19, both Houses of Parliament were adjourned until noon due to uproar over the suspension of MPs. Subsequently, opposition members staged a demonstration inside the Parliament premises.
