Thematic Dance Competition on Republic Day

Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University, organized a Thematic Dance Competition on the occasion of
Republic Day on 24th January, 2026. The competition was based on the theme “Women without fame, yet freedom knew
their name: Our Unsung Heroes”

, paying tribute to the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of women freedom fighters
who played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence. At the outset of the programme, homage was paid to Bharat
Ratna Karpoori Thakur on his birth anniversary by placing a lit diya beside his portrait, symbolizing respect and
remembrance.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. The participants portrayed
women freedom fighters from different states of India, presenting diverse regional narratives in accordance with the theme.


Through classical and contemporary dance forms, they expressed courage, resilience, sacrifice, and patriotism, with each


performance reflecting thoughtful interpretation, cultural diversity, and emotional depth. The event left a lasting impression
on the audience and was also witnessed by the students of the Ragpickers Education & Development Scheme (REDS), whose
presence added a meaningful dimension of inclusivity and social engagement to the celebration.

The esteemed judges for the competition were Dr. Zareen Fatima, Head, Department of Economics; Dr. Anil Kumar,
Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology; and Ms. Manya, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication.
The performances were evaluated on the basis of theme interpretation, expression, choreography, and overall presentation.
Following the performances, Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal, Patna Women’s College, addressed the gathering and


appreciated the participants for their exceptional talent, creativity, and profound understanding of the theme. She lauded the
students for effectively using dance as a medium to honour the legacy of India’s unsung women heroes.
Subsequently, certificates for the Student Research Project (SRP) 2025–26 and Basic Scientific Research (BSR) 2025–26 were
distributed to the respective awardees. The event concluded with the announcement of the winners of the Thematic Dance

Competition. The First Position was secured by Code 6 (Department of History), the Second Position by Code 7 (Department
of Education), while the Third Position was jointly awarded to Code 3 (Department of Commerce) and Code 8 (Department
of Political Science).
The competition successfully reinforced the spirit of patriotism, celebrated India’s cultural diversity, and highlighted the
often-overlooked contributions of women in the nation’s freedom movement
