Patna, December 21, 2024: Patna Women’s College celebrated its annual Christmas Milan event with an inspiring gathering of transgenders and rickshaw pullers on its campus. This heartwarming initiative, jointly organized by the College administration and the Alumni Association, served as a testament to the institution’s commitment to inclusivity and community service.
The event began at 10:15 a.m. with an interactive session for 90 transgender individuals at the Basketball Court. This was followed by a meeting with 140 rickshaw pullers at 11:30 a.m. Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College, warmly welcomed the guests and expressed her delight at hosting them during the festive season.
In her address, Dr. Sister Rashmi shared her vision of fostering harmony and understanding, emphasizing the importance of recognizing marginalized communities. Her words were met with enthusiastic applause from the attendees, who felt truly valued by the College’s initiative.The highlight of the program was the distribution of blankets and sarees to the guests. A variety of entertaining activities, including songs and games, added to the joyful atmosphere. These activities were facilitated by Dr. Manjula Sushila, Head of the Hindi Department. To make the occasion even more memorable, prizes were distributed to the guests by Dr. Sister Rashmi and Dr. Ameeta Jaiswal, Head of the Philosophy Department.
Guests were also treated to refreshments, adding a touch of festive cheer to the proceedings. Carol singing, organized by Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the History Department, along with Sister M. Nelsa A.C. from the English Department and the Department of Education, further enriched the celebratory ambiance.
The event was masterfully moderated by Dr. Vinita Priyedarshi, Head of the Political Science Department, Dr. Aarti Kumari, Head of the Biotechnology Department, and Dr. Ragini Ranjan, Assistant Professor of Sociology. Their efforts ensured the program’s smooth execution and created a welcoming environment for all participants.
Ms. Reshma, President of Transgender Friends, delivered an impactful speech during the event. She highlighted the need for broader recognition and acknowledgment of the transgender community, urging equal representation for both trans women and trans men. Her heartfelt message resonated deeply with the audience, underlining the significance of inclusion and empathy.
