Patna, December 23, 2024: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today commenced the first phase of the ‘Pragati Yatra’ from Tharu Tola Ghotwa, located in Santpur Sahariya Panchayat under Bagaha-2 block in West Champaran district. During the visit, the Chief Minister toured the village, reviewed development works carried out under various government schemes, and interacted with the local community.
As part of the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 41 projects worth ₹172.19 crore. Among the inaugurated projects were MGNREGA-constructed roads, a Health and Wellness Center, a waste management unit, a park, and an open gym built by the District Council. Other schemes included the Chief Minister Rural Street Light Scheme, drainage and road construction under the Nali-Gali Yojana, the Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal Scheme, and the Chief Minister Rural Housing Scheme.
The Chief Minister highlighted the transformation of Tharu Tola Ghotwa, once a flood-prone village located near the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, where rising water levels disrupted connectivity during monsoons. The construction of roads has now ensured uninterrupted access, improving mobility and linking the village with nearby areas.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation for a ₹139.04 crore electrification project under the Energy Department. This initiative will connect 11,798 households in 25 villages of the Tharuhat region to the main power grid, ensuring reliable and quality electricity supply. Previously, these villages received limited electricity through off-grid systems.
At Tharu Tola Ghotwa, the Chief Minister visited stalls showcasing locally produced goods by the Tharu community and women associated with Jeevika self-help groups. He also planted saplings at the open gym premises as part of the state’s environmental conservation efforts.
Villagers warmly welcomed the Chief Minister with floral showers and colorful rangoli patterns outside their homes, expressing gratitude for the development initiatives.
The Chief Minister was felicitated with garlands, bouquets, and symbolic gifts by local representatives, including Minister for Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, MP Sushil Kumar Kushwaha, MLA Dhirendra Pratap Singh, and others. Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, and District Magistrate Dinesh Kumar Rai, were also present.
Before embarking on the ‘Pragati Yatra,’ Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the newly constructed VIP lounge at Patna Airport. He also interacted with officials and public representatives gathered at the airport to greet him.The event underscores the Bihar government’s commitment to holistic development, ensuring that even the most remote villages benefit from infrastructure, electrification, and welfare schemes.
