Bihar ATS Arrests Suspected Extremist in Phulwarisharif Anti-Terror Operation

Patna, April 20, 2025 — In a significant development concerning national security, the Bihar Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted a covert operation in the Phulwarisharif area of Patna, resulting in the arrest of a 22-year-old man, Mohammad Junaid. The operation, executed late on April 19, was based on credible intelligence inputs suggesting Junaid’s involvement in activities detrimental to national integrity.​

According to officials, Junaid was allegedly active on social media platforms under the guise of supporting the ‘Save Palestine’ campaign. The ATS has seized Junaid’s mobile phone, laptop, and social media accounts for forensic analysis. A dedicated cyber team is currently examining these digital assets to uncover any connections to broader extremist networks.​

Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police confirmed the arrest, stating that the operation was executed with precision to prevent any potential threats. The swift action by the ATS was likened to a “surgical strike,” aiming to neutralize any imminent danger without causing public alarm.​

Further investigations have revealed potential links between Junaid and a larger radical network operating across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. This network has been under scrutiny following the recent arrests of two individuals in Uttar Pradesh, who, during interrogation, disclosed information leading to Junaid’s apprehension.​

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been actively involved in probing similar cases in the region. In previous operations, the NIA arrested individuals associated with the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with the Phulwarisharif terror module case.
