Bihar’s (DGP) Mr. R.S. Bhatti hoisted national flag at the headquarters in Patna on 78th Independence Day

On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP) Mr. R.S. Bhatti hoisted the national flag at the headquarters in Patna, saluting the tricolor with great pride. During the ceremony, he highlighted the commendable work carried out by the Bihar Police over the years and extended his congratulations and best wishes to the citizens of Bihar and the nation. The DGP also recognized the officers and personnel who were awarded medals for bravery, distinguished service, and meritorious service.

In his address, DGP Bhatti emphasized the effectiveness of the Dial 112 emergency response service in Bihar, which currently provides emergency assistance to 5,000 people daily, placing the state second in the country in terms of daily service delivery. The response time for emergencies in Bihar is approximately 18 minutes, ranking the state seventh in the nation for quick response. The DGP announced that the goal for 2024 is to provide emergency services to 1.5 million people through Dial 112.

The DGP also highlighted the significant increase in the number of women serving in the Bihar Police, which has now reached approximately 30,000. Currently, 223 women officers are serving as station house officers (SHOs) or additional SHOs across the state’s police stations. He further announced that in the near future, around 20 percent of SHO positions in Bihar will be held by women. Additionally, every police station in the state now has a women’s help desk, ensuring that women’s grievances are heard and addressed by female officers.

Bihar Police’s social media presence was another area of focus in the DGP’s speech. With 1.2 million followers, Bihar Police is the most followed government institution in the state and ranks fifth among police forces nationwide. The police use social media platforms to raise awareness about traffic rules, cyber safety, and women’s security. Notably, 10 percent of their Facebook followers are women.

In a significant development, Bihar will soon have two cyber forensic labs that meet national standards, a first for the state. The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) has enabled the digital recording of FIRs and case diaries. Furthermore, all traffic police personnel will soon be equipped with body-worn cameras, and online challans are being issued using handheld devices. So far in 2024, fines totaling ₹40 crore have been collected for traffic violations.

The DGP also addressed the welfare of police personnel, mentioning the provision of ₹25 lakh to the families of officers who die in the line of duty, with plans to increase this amount to ₹1.5 crore. In recent months, 15,000 officers and personnel of the Bihar Police have received promotions, and efforts are being made to ensure that all police personnel receive timely promotions.
