CAT 2023 Results Unveiled: Male Dominance in Top Percentiles
In a significant development, the results for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 were officially announced on December 21, 2023, by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The CAT, a highly competitive entrance examination for admission into prestigious management programs, witnessed a total of 2.88 lakh test takers. Among them, 14 candidates achieved a perfect 100 percentile, while 29 candidates secured an impressive 99.99 percentile. Notably, all the candidates achieving the coveted 100 percentile were male,
only one female candidate managed to secure the 99.99 percentile mark this year. This raises questions about the representation and performance of female candidates in the fiercely competitive CAT examination. The overall attendance for the exam was reported to be around 88%, showcasing a robust participation rate.
Out of the 2.88 lakh candidates who took the CAT 2023, the gender distribution was delineated with 36% being female, 64% male, and 5 candidates identifying as transgender. The figures underscore the persistent challenges in achieving gender diversity in the realm of management education, with a need for proactive measures to address the imbalance.
The CAT 2023 results were not without their share of controversies. Two questions, one from the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) section and another from the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) section, were dropped. The VARC question was deemed incorrect, while the DILR question posed a unique challenge with two correct options. Candidates who attempted either of the two questions were generously awarded full marks, reflecting a fair approach to compensating for the discrepancies.
As the news of the CAT results spread, candidates eagerly sought access to their scorecards. The CAT 2023 scorecards are now available for download on the official IIMCAT website. Candidates can retrieve their results by logging in with their ID and username. Additionally, the examination authorities took proactive steps to inform candidates of the result release, sending out SMS and email notifications to ensure that all test takers were promptly notified.
The comprehensive CAT 2023 scorecard includes essential details such as each candidate’s name, registration number, category, photograph, sectional scores, overall score, sectional percentile, and overall percentile. This information serves as a crucial benchmark for candidates, helping them evaluate their performance and make informed decisions regarding their future academic pursuits.
