Patna, August 11, 2024: Honorable Governor Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar attended the Second National Organ Donation Day and the Tenth International Organ Donation Day event, organized by Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti, Bihar. The event took place at the Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Gandhi Maidan, Patna, and included a ceremony to honor and reaffirm the commitment to organ and body donation.
During his address, the Governor emphasized the importance of transforming the cause of organ and body donation into a widespread campaign across the state. He urged everyone to personally commit to this cause and to inspire others to pledge their organs and bodies for donation. He stressed that it is our individual responsibility to support such noble endeavors.
The Governor praised the work of Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti, Bihar, noting that their mission serves the entire society and sets an exemplary standard. He fondly remembered the late former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Modi, acknowledging his significant contributions to the growth and development of the Samiti and other social organizations. The Governor highlighted the profound impact of organ and body donation, noting that through these acts, individuals can continue to serve society even after death. He shared that the donation of a loved one’s organs can bring comfort, knowing that a part of them continues to live on.
The Governor also expressed his pleasure that the government is considering the establishment of a Muscular Dystrophy Center, reflecting ongoing efforts to address critical health issues.
At the event, the Governor honored various individuals, including doctors, those who have provided aid to orphaned children, and family members of body donors. He also released a book on organ donation and health, authored by Shri Pawan Kejriwal. The ceremony included a collective recitation of a pledge related to organ and body donation, reinforcing the participants’ commitment to this cause.
The event was also addressed by Honorable Health and Agriculture Minister Shri Mangal Pandey, former Governor of Sikkim and President of Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti Shri Ganga Prasad, and Honorable MLA Shri Sanjeev Chaurasia. Padma Shri awardee and General Secretary of Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti Shri Bimal Jain also spoke on the occasion.
Other notable attendees included the Vice President of the Samiti and Senior Ophthalmologist Dr. Subhash Prasad, former Additional Solicitor General of India Shri S.D. Sanjay, several doctors from various medical colleges, social workers associated with Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti, and other distinguished guests.
The event underscored the importance of organ and body donation, highlighting the role of such donations in saving lives and contributing to medical research. The Governor’s call to action aims to inspire widespread participation in this vital cause, ensuring that the spirit of giving continues to thrive in the state of Bihar.
