Patna, March 25, 2025: The Sepak Takraw World Cup, held for the first time in Bihar, concluded in grand fashion at the Patliputra Sports Complex. The tournament, which ran from March 20 to March 25, saw India securing a gold medal in the men’s regu event after defeating Japan 2-1 in a thrilling final. Japan had to settle for silver.
In the women’s regu event, Thailand won the gold, Vietnam took silver, while India and Malaysia shared the bronze medal. India made history by improving its medal tally from the previous World Cup, winning a total of seven medals this year—one gold, one silver, and five bronze.
The grand closing ceremony was attended by Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Sports Minister Surendra Mehta, and Olympian Shreyasi Singh, who honored the winners with medals and trophies. Also present were Additional Chief Secretary of the Sports Department B. Rajender, Bihar State Sports Authority Director-General and CEO Ravindran Shankaran, Sports Department Director Mahendra Kumar, Bihar State Sports Authority Director Ravindra Nath Choudhary, International Sepak Takraw Federation Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Kadir, and Sepak Takraw Federation of India President Yogendra Singh Dahiya, along with several other dignitaries.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed his joy over Bihar successfully hosting an international sporting event, emphasizing the pride of India winning gold on Bihar’s soil. He highlighted Bihar’s growing prominence in the sports sector, citing the recent Asian Women’s Champions Trophy held in Rajgir, where India also clinched gold. He further assured that Bihar is set to host more international tournaments in the future, with continued support from the state and central governments.
Olympian Shreyasi Singh lauded Bihar’s success, remarking that Bihar’s soil has brought luck to India’s sporting victories. She also emphasized how such international events promote cultural exchange and goodwill among nations.
Sepak Takraw Federation of India President Yogendra Singh Dahiya honored key dignitaries such as Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, Sports Minister Surendra Mehta, Additional Chief Secretary B. Rajender, Sanjay Mayukh, and Shreyasi Singh with traditional scarves and mementos.
The successful hosting of the Sepak Takraw World Cup in Bihar further solidified the state’s reputation as a capable venue for international sports. The event not only provided thrilling matches but also fostered cross-cultural connections among participating nations.
