Indian Academy of Pediatrics marked Medico Legal Protection Day
February 17, 2024, as it observed the Medico Legal Protection Day across various medical colleges in Bihar. Distinguished pediatric specialists hailing from Patna graced the event, highlighting the critical need for bridging the growing divide between doctors and patients. President Dr. Shravan Kumar and Secretary Dr. Rashmi Agrawal emphasized the alarming surge in unwarranted assaults on medical practitioners and instances of hospital vandalism, which have tragically claimed the lives of numerous doctors.
Dr. Nigam Prakash Narayan shed light on the Supreme Court’s interventions aimed at curbing such incidents. Despite these efforts, the persistence of such assaults, fueled by emotional provocation and political influences, remains a concerning issue, as articulated by Dr. Narayan.
Dr. A.K. Jayaswal underscored the unparalleled sacrifices made by doctors, particularly amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized the significant toll borne by healthcare professionals in the fight against the virus, stressing their unwavering commitment to preserving every life. Dr. Jayaswal also emphasized the importance of refraining from attributing negligence posthumously, urging a more holistic understanding of the challenges faced by medical practitioners.
Furthermore, Dr. S. A. Krishna and Dr. N. P. Deepak, among other prominent figures, graced the event with their presence, further amplifying the significance of the occasion.
