Patna: Acharya Kishor Kunal, the secretary of the Mahavir Mandir Trust and a former IPS officer, was cremated on Monday with full Vedic rituals at Konhara Ghat, Hajipur. The renowned scholar and philanthropist passed away on Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest, leaving behind a legacy of service and devotion. His passing marks the end of an era for those who admired his contributions to religious and social work.
Acharya Kunal’s mortal remains were kept at the Mahavir Mandir in Patna for public homage, where a large number of dignitaries and common citizens gathered to pay their respects. Emotional scenes unfolded as people from all walks of life came to bid farewell to the man who had touched so many lives.
The funeral procession began from his residence on Gaushala Road near Kurji, Patna, on Monday morning. The journey traversed Kurji, Rajiv Nagar, and Atal Path before reaching Mahavir Mandir, where his body was kept for an hour and a quarter for public viewing. Thousands gathered at the temple, many with tear-filled eyes, to offer their final respects.
The procession then made its way from Gandhi Maidan to Marine Drive, eventually reaching Gai Ghat. From there, it crossed the Gandhi Setu to reach Konhara Ghat in Hajipur, where the final rites were performed. Acharya Kunal’s son, Shyan Kunal, performed the last rites, lighting the funeral pyre as per Hindu traditions. His daughter-in-law and Member of Parliament Shambhavi also participated in the emotional farewell, along with Ashok Chaudhary, Acharya Kunal’s son-in-law, who carried the bier alongside Shyan Kunal.
The atmosphere at Konhara Ghat was deeply emotional, with a massive crowd of mourners gathered to witness the final journey of the revered scholar. Acharya Kunal’s daughter-in-law, Shambhavi, and other family members were visibly heartbroken as they bid their final goodbye.
The funeral procession was marked by moments of profound grief. At Mahavir Mandir, Shyan Kunal and other family members, including his wife, were seen weeping inconsolably, a sentiment echoed by the hundreds of devotees who had gathered to pay homage. Acharya Kunal’s contributions to society, particularly through his work at Mahavir Mandir Trust, were remembered with reverence.
Known for his scholarship, integrity, and dedication, Acharya Kishor Kunal had significantly impacted religious and social causes throughout his life.
