Patna, 2nd February 2025: The Annual Function of Patna Women’s College was celebrated with grandeur on its campus, with the Hon’ble Governor of Bihar, Shri Arif Mohammad Khan, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, Vice Chancellor of Patna University, Dr. Sister M. Reema A.C., Provincial Superior, Northern Province, Apostolic Carmel, and Dr. Sister M. Jincy A.C., Superior of Avila Convent.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Hon’ble Governor, Shri Arif Mohammad Khan, alongside Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College, Dr. Sister M. Jincy A.C., and other esteemed guests. The event began on a spiritual note with the divine invocation ‘Ish Vandana Tu Hi Mera Aadhar Hai,’ setting a reverential tone for the day.
A mesmerizing dance performance followed, leaving the audience spellbound. The students then extended a warm welcome to the guests through a melodious welcome song. Principal Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C. presented a symbolic token of respect to the Governor, offering him a plant and a shawl.
In her address, Principal Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C. highlighted the institution’s achievements. She stated, “Patna Women’s College has earned a distinguished place on the educational map of India through its commitment to academic excellence, research, and extracurricular activities over eight decades. The college has been awarded the prestigious ‘A++’ grade by NAAC, a testament to the relentless efforts of our dedicated faculty and management. Our students, as symbols of women’s empowerment, represent the institution on global platforms. By integrating research, skill development, and information technology under the new education policy, the college has set an exemplary benchmark for others.” A PowerPoint presentation was then showcased, presenting the college’s history, achievements, academic programs, and extracurricular engagements.
The cultural segment of the function enthralled the audience with a variety of performances. A lively Punjabi folk dance, ‘Bhangra Beats,’ performed by the students, infused an energetic vibe into the gathering. This was followed by a dance drama titled ‘Sarvajeevasukham Sarvdharmasukham,’ which portrayed Bihar’s illustrious past through the lens of its rich religious and cultural heritage. Another standout performance, ‘Fan Dance,’ captivated the audience with its elegant choreography and synchronized movements.
The highlight of the event was the felicitation of meritorious students by the Hon’ble Governor, Shri Arif Mohammad Khan. Seven outstanding students were awarded in recognition of their exemplary academic and extracurricular achievements, with awards instituted in the names of seven former principals of the college. In his speech, the Governor lauded the institution for its significant role in shaping the leadership skills and personalities of young women in Bihar.
“I am honored to be present at the annual function of Patna Women’s College. This institution plays a crucial role in fostering the potential of young girls and contributes actively towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Developed India by 2040. The college’s remarkable achievement of securing an ‘A++’ grade by NAAC and its commitment to the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign are truly commendable,” he remarked. Quoting verses from the Bhagavad Gita, he emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment and lauded the institution’s contributions in this sphere.
The Vice Chancellor of Patna University, Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, delivered an inspiring presidential address. He narrated the story of a young girl from a modest background who achieved international acclaim in the Kho-Kho Cup competition, underscoring the importance of ambition, determination, and the unwavering support of teachers and parents. He advised students to pursue subjects aligned with their interests and emphasized the significance of maintaining a balanced diet for overall well-being. He also encouraged students to enhance their emotional and spiritual growth alongside their academic pursuits.
As part of the recognition ceremony, Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh presented merit scholarships to deserving students, acknowledging their academic excellence and dedication.The event was seamlessly coordinated by Dr. Zareen Fatima, Mr. Adweetiya Sinha, Srishti Tiwari, and Maryam Fatima, while Dr. Sahar Rahman announced the awards. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Alok John, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, and students for their enthusiastic participation.
The grand finale saw an emotive rendition of “Vande Mataram” by the students, culminating in a powerful and patriotic conclusion. The event concluded with the reverberation of the national anthem, marking the end of a successful and memorable annual function at Patna Women’s College.
