Patna Women’s College Hosts Patriotic Song Competition, Celebrating Nationalism and Unity

Patna, 12th August 2024 – In a heartfelt celebration of patriotism and nationalism, Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University, hosted a grand Patriotic Song Competition, bringing together students and faculty in a vibrant display of love for the nation. The event, held in anticipation of India’s 78th Independence Day, was a profound reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals for the freedom of the country and the importance of fostering a sense of unity and pride among the younger generations.

The solemn programme began with the traditional welcoming of the esteemed jury members, setting the tone for an evening filled with emotional and spirited performances. The jury for the event included Mr. Alok John, Dean of National and International Collaborations and Consultancy Services; Dr. Medha, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology; and Ms. Mona Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce at Patna Women’s College. Each jury member brought their unique perspective and expertise, adding depth to the evaluation process.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation from 13 groups, each delivering powerful renditions of patriotic songs that resonated deeply with the audience. The songs chosen by the participants reflected a rich tapestry of India’s cultural heritage and the indomitable spirit of its people. From the stirring beats of “Jantu Janni” to the soulful lyrics of “Har Kadam Watan Mere,” every performance was a tribute to the nation’s diversity and resilience. The atmosphere was electrifying, with students donning tricolour wristbands, flag tattoos, and a variety of traditional outfits, all contributing to the aura of nationalism that permeated the event.

As the programme progressed, it became clear that the event was not just a competition but a celebration of India’s unity in diversity. Mr. Alok John took the stage to express his admiration for the students’ efforts. He lauded the participants for their dedication and highlighted the significance of the 78th Independence Day, reminding everyone that music has the unique power to unite hearts and evoke a sense of pride and belonging. “Nothing moves like music does,” he said, emphasizing how the performances had touched the hearts of everyone present.

Dr. Amrita Chowdhary, IQAC Coordinator and Head of the Department of Geography, also addressed the gathering, congratulating the participants for their hard work and enthusiasm. She praised the students for their melodic renditions, noting that each song was a testament to the participants’ deep-rooted patriotism. Dr. Chowdhary then proceeded to announce the eagerly awaited results of the competition.

The first position was proudly secured by the group representing Code 01 (History), whose performance stood out for its passion and precision. The second position was a tie between Code 08 (Sociology) and Code 11 (Geography), both of whom delivered performances that were equally moving and impactful. The third position was awarded to Code 13 (Computer Applications) and Code 14 (Mixed), whose innovative interpretations of patriotic themes left a lasting impression on the judges and the audience alike.

The success of the programme was attributed to the meticulous planning and guidance provided by the Cultural Coordinators, Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History; Ms. Enakshi Dey Biswas, Coordinator of Performing Arts; and Ms. Puja Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce. Their leadership ensured that the event not only ran smoothly but also achieved its goal of instilling a sense of national pride among the students.

Throughout the evening, the programme was skillfully moderated by Preeti Singh, General Secretary, and Shreya Bhushan, Joint General Secretary of the Student Council for 2024-25. Their confident and poised presentation kept the audience engaged and the event flowing seamlessly.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, delivered by Kanchan Vinod, Joint Sports Secretary of the Student Council for 2024-25. She expressed gratitude to the jury members, participants, organizers, and all those who contributed to making the event a memorable success. Kanchan emphasized the importance of such events in fostering a spirit of camaraderie and patriotism among students, encouraging them to continue celebrating the nation’s rich heritage.
