Patna: The Bihar Police’s campaign against obscenity in Bhojpuri music is gaining widespread support. On the occasion of Bihar Diwas, numerous artists from Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema, television, and regional influencers have raised their voices against vulgar and double-meaning songs. They collectively agree that irrespective of the language, obscene or suggestive songs should not be tolerated. The campaign, which seeks to ban such songs in public places, has been widely appreciated. Notably, Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra has already filed a PIL in the High Court against rising obscenity in Bhojpuri songs. Bihar Police headquarters has issued a directive stating that any instance of playing vulgar songs in public will be met with legal action.
Bhojpuri Industry Calls for a Ban on Obscene Songs
Popular singer Priya Malik, known for hits like Haathi Lebe Ghoda Lebe, Patna Wali Muniya, and Mehndi Rach Gayi, extended her support to the initiative by posting a video message. She emphasized that vulgar content and obscene dance performances tarnish the dignity of women and should be curbed. Praising Bihar Police, she said, “Art enhances society, and I salute the Bihar Police for taking this commendable step.”
Actor Vinay Anand, known for films such as Aamdani Atthani Kharcha Rupaiya and Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya, also backed the campaign. In his message, he highlighted that while some enjoy such songs, many find them offensive, and it is essential to eradicate them from public spaces. He urged people to support the movement and contribute to building a more respectable society.
TV Personalities Speak Out Against Vulgarity
Actress Reena Rani, known for TV shows like Nimki Mukhiya, Phulwa, and Jhansi Ki Rani, expressed her disappointment with the increasing obscenity in Bhojpuri songs. She called Bihar Police’s initiative commendable and urged the public to stop playing such songs. Similarly, actress Sneha Pallavi, recognized for films like The Mountain Man, Umeed, and Gulmohar, also spoke against vulgarity, appealing to the public to support Bihar Police’s mission.
Influencers Join the Cause
Fashion designer Nitish Chandra also supported the campaign, emphasizing that obscene songs should not be tolerated as they primarily affect women. Several Patna-based influencers have also joined the movement. Blogger Saloni Singh, originally from Siwan, promotes Bihar’s beauty through her content and has now raised her voice against vulgar songs. She shared a video urging people not to play or promote such music. Lifestyle and travel influencer Karishma Bharadwaj also condemned the increasing vulgarity in regional music, stating that she stands with Bihar Police in ensuring a complete ban on such content in public spaces.
DGP Issues Strict Warning Against Obscenity
Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar recently addressed a gathering, emphasizing the need for strict action against obscenity. He highlighted that vulgar dance performances continue because there is an audience for them. He urged women to raise their voices against such events to help curb their prevalence. The Bihar Police headquarters has instructed all districts to launch special campaigns against the broadcasting of obscene Bhojpuri songs. Authorities have been directed to register FIRs and take legal action against offenders. According to the directive, such songs impact the dignity and safety of women, often making them feel uncomfortable and vulnerable.
