Patna, January 12, 2024: Traffic movement across Patna came to a standstill as supporters of Purnia MP Pappu Yadav staged a protest during a state-wide Bihar bandh. The bandh was called under the banner of Chhatra Yuva Shakti to demand re-examinations for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams, alleging irregularities in the process.
The protestors blocked major roads in the city, including key junctions like NIT Mor, Boring Road, and Rajendra Nagar Terminal. Demonstrators set fire to tires on the streets, creating chaos and disrupting daily life for commuters. Public transport services were severely affected, leaving many stranded as the city witnessed widespread disruption.
The program, announced in advance, began at 9:00 AM with student groups gathering at multiple locations under the leadership of Chhatra Yuva Shakti. Pappu Yadav himself joined the protest at 11:00 AM, leading supporters from Income Tax Golambar to the busy Dak Bungalow intersection.
The protest aimed to highlight what Yadav and his supporters described as systemic corruption and mismanagement in the BPSC recruitment process. They demanded a thorough investigation and re-examination to ensure fairness for all candidates.
In a public statement, the organizers invited citizens to join the bandh, emphasizing that the cause affects the future of Bihar’s youth. While the protest remained largely peaceful, roadblocks and arson incidents caused significant inconvenience to residents.
Authorities deployed additional security personnel across the city to manage the situation and prevent escalation. By evening, efforts were underway to restore normalcy, though the disruption highlighted the growing discontent among Bihar’s youth and political activists.
