Patna, January 8, 2025: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today granted development projects worth approximately ₹985 crore to Saran district during his Pragati Yatra. The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 52 development schemes via remote. These include the inauguration of 32 projects worth ₹688.17 crore and the foundation laying of 20 projects estimated at ₹296.42 crore.
As part of his Pragati Yatra, the Chief Minister visited Bisen Tola in Chapra Sadar block, Saran district, to inspect the widening and strengthening of the NH-19 left-out Chapra Path and the proposed elevated road from Doriganj Bazaar to Bishunpura. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of expediting these roadworks, stating that their completion will enhance connectivity and resolve traffic congestion issues.
One of the major highlights was the inauguration of the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chapra, built at a cost of ₹655 crore. The Chief Minister inspected the academic building, practical labs, and skill labs. He also visited the hospital’s OPD, registration counters, and consultation rooms.
“The construction of this hospital has been completed in a highly efficient manner. This facility will significantly benefit the residents of Chapra and surrounding areas by providing quality healthcare services. In addition to medical education, patient treatment will also be conducted here. I am extremely pleased with its operational readiness,” the Chief Minister remarked.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a beautified pond in Mahmada village, Garkha block, under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Campaign. This included the development of a landscaped pathway, Chhath ghats, and a rural ghat constructed under MGNREGA. He directed officials to construct step-style ghats around the pond to conserve water and enhance its aesthetic appeal.
Since the campaign’s inception in 2019, efforts have focused on restoring public wells, ponds, and water bodies. The Chief Minister also visited stalls set up by various departments and the Jeevika Didis, where he reviewed their activities and progress.

The Chief Minister highlighted the impact of the Jeevika initiative, stating that it has transformed the lives of over 1.31 crore women across Bihar. “The number of Jeevika groups has grown from a handful to 10.61 lakh since 2006. These groups have empowered women by improving their economic status, boosting their confidence, and enabling them to engage in entrepreneurship,” he said.
He credited the World Bank-funded initiative for inspiring similar programs across India. Urban Jeevika groups have also been established, with 26,000 women participating so far.
The Chief Minister inspected road development projects in Ekma block, including the proposed Ekma-Mashrakh Road and Ekma-Tajpur-Dumaigarh Path, estimated at ₹90 crore and ₹40 crore, respectively. Officials provided detailed briefings on these projects, which aim to improve regional connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation.
