Patna, February 19, 2024: – Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar today toured IIT Bihta, Patna and took stock of the newly constructed buildings. The management of IIT Bihta, Patna made a presentation to the Chief Minister regarding the newly constructed residential zones, academic zones, sports zones, hostel zones, etc. under Phase 2. On February 20, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the newly constructed buildings in the premises of IIT Patna, Bihta. The construction of 24 newly built buildings under Phase 2 has been completed at a cost of Rs. 426 crores covering an area of 1,07,761 square feet. The newly constructed buildings to be inaugurated tomorrow include educational buildings, girls’ hostels, boys’ hostels, central library, auditorium, central lecture hall, student activities center, senior professor residences, and other buildings. The Chairman of IIT Patna, Dr. Anand Desh Pandey, congratulated the Chief Minister by presenting him with a shawl.
The Chief Minister, in collaboration with the then Minister of Human Resources of the Government of India in 2007, had urged for the establishment of IIT in Patna, which was accepted, and subsequently, in 2008, IIT Patna was established. Initially, arrangements were made for its operation at the Patliputra Polytechnic Institute campus. The Bihar government provided 500 acres of land free of cost in Bihta for its permanent campus. After the construction of basic academic and administrative buildings, the institute was shifted to its permanent campus in Bihta in 2012. The inauguration of other newly constructed buildings under Phase 2 will be done tomorrow by the Prime Minister to ensure its better operation.
On this occasion, the Chief Secretary of the Chief Minister, Shri Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary of the Chief Minister, Shri Anupam Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, Shri Lokesh Kumar Singh, Special Secretary of the Chief Minister’s Office, Shri Chandrashekhar Singh, Patna District Magistrate Shri Shirsat Kapil Ashok, and various other officials including the Superintendent of Police, Shri Rajiv Mishra, professors of IIT Patna, members of the administrative council, and other dignitaries were present
