Patna, [Date]: The Health Department, Government of India, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Patna Women’s College, organized a Mass Drug Administration Programme aimed at eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis. The awareness event took place on [Date] at Carmel Hall, Patna Women’s College, and commenced at 11:00 A.M.
The programme was inaugurated with an insightful presentation by Dr. Rajesh Pandey, WHO India Coordinator for Bihar. Dr. Pandey provided a comprehensive overview of Lymphatic Filariasis, covering its causes, symptoms, and prevention strategies. He emphasized the significance of the mass drug administration (MDA) initiative in combating the disease, particularly in the Filariasis-prone states of India. His talk was followed by an interactive session where NSS volunteers engaged in a lively discussion, posing questions and seeking clarifications.
As part of the awareness drive, students showcased their creativity through a reel-making and poster competition. The reels focused on the symptoms and prevention of Lymphatic Filariasis, while the posters highlighted slogans advocating for the elimination of the disease. In addition to the focus on Lymphatic Filariasis, the event also included a talk on Dengue and Chikungunya, raising awareness about these mosquito-borne diseases that pose a significant public health threat.
The programme concluded with remarks by Dr. Pankhuri, who provided detailed instructions on the correct consumption of preventive medicines for Lymphatic Filariasis. She also highlighted the progress made in raising awareness about the disease and the importance of continued efforts in this direction.
The event was attended by NSS Programme Officers Dr. Shahla Rehana and Dr. Amrita, who expressed their support for the ongoing efforts to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis and other vector-borne diseases. The collaboration between the Health Department and Patna Women’s College was hailed as a significant step towards building a healthier and more informed community.
