Legislators March to Raj Bhavan Over BPSC Paper Leak, Clashes with Police

Patna, December 31, 2024

Legislators from CPI(ML), CPI, CPM, and Congress staged a protest march to Raj Bhavan today, demanding action on the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) paper leak, re-conducting of examinations, and justice for candidates who faced alleged police brutality.

Despite repeated barricades set up by the Patna administration at five locations, the legislators managed to reach Raj Bhavan, with significant clashes and heated exchanges reported along the way.

Protest Details

The march commenced at 2 PM from Sat Murti near the Bihar Assembly. Authorities attempted to block the protesters by erecting gates and barricades, but CPI(ML) Paliganj MLA Sandeep Saurabh broke through the first gate, enabling the march to proceed.

Police intervened multiple times, seizing banners and attempting to halt the protesters. During one such scuffle, Ara MP Sudama Prasad fell and suffered minor injuries to his leg.

The march was stopped again at Eco Park and two other locations, but the determined legislators crossed all barricades and continued forward.

Near Raj Bhavan, a heavily fortified barricade was set up by the administration. However, a proposal for dialogue was received from the Raj Bhavan, and a delegation of legislators was invited inside to meet the Governor and present their demands.

Leaders of the Protest

The march was led by CPI(ML) legislative leader Mehboob Alam, deputy leader Satyadev Ram, Congress Legislative Party leader Shakeel Ahmad, CPI leader Ramratan Singh, and CPM leader Ajay Kumar. Academic and intellectual Prof. Vidyarthi Vikas also joined the protest.

Prominent participants included Ara MP Sudama Prasad, Legislative Council member Shashi Yadav, and CPI(ML) MLAs Sandeep Saurabh, Arun Singh, Gopal Ravidas, Virendra Prasad Gupta, Mahanand Singh, Amarjeet Kushwaha, Rambali Singh Yadav, and Shivprakash Ranjan. Congress leaders Samir Mahaseth and Pratima Das, CPI leader Suryakant Paswan, and CPM MLA Satyendra Yadav also took part in the march.

  • Implementation of a transparent and credible examination process.

Background

The BPSC paper leak scandal has sparked widespread anger across Bihar, with candidates alleging administrative negligence and demanding justice. The legislators’ march to Raj Bhavan was a show of solidarity with the affected candidates and an attempt to hold the administration accountable.

Despite facing repeated obstacles and alleged police misconduct, the legislators successfully brought attention to the issue. The outcomes of their discussions with the Governor are now eagerly awaited.
