Patna Women’s College Celebrates Republic Day with Folk Song Competitions

Patna, January 25, 2025: Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, marked the 76th Republic Day with a vibrant celebration featuring a Regional Folk Song Competition and the Annual Certificate Distribution Ceremony. The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of folk music while honoring students for their exceptional achievements across various fields.

The celebration, held on the college premises, was graced by an eminent jury comprising Dr. Manjula Sushila, Dr. Prabhat Jha, and Mr. Rajeev Ranjan. A total of 12 teams participated in the folk song competition, presenting a mesmerizing array of traditional melodies that celebrated the diversity and essence of regional culture.

During the event, Dr. Prabhat Jha, one of the jury members, highlighted the significance of folk songs in preserving cultural heritage. “Folk songs are more than just melodies; they convey the values of nature, community, and tradition. They are an integral part of our identity,” he remarked.

The competition concluded with the announcement of the much-awaited results. Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College, addressed the audience, congratulating all participants for their efforts and enthusiasm. She emphasized the importance of cultural activities in fostering creativity and unity among students.

The winners of the Regional Folk Song Competition were as follows:

  • First Place: Code 9 (Geography Department)
  • Second Place: Code 12 (History Department)
  • Third Place: Code 7 (Mixed Group)
  • Fourth Place: Code 5 (B.Com, A/F)

In addition to the folk song competition, the event also celebrated academic and cultural excellence. Certificates were distributed to winning groups from various cultural competitions held throughout the year, as well as for the Student’s Research Projects, recognizing the hard work and innovation of young researchers.

Among the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of two special awards:

  • PWC Outstanding Performer Award: Shreyasvi Raj from the Department of Sociology was honored for her exceptional contributions to cultural and academic activities.
  • PWC Technical Assistance Excellence Award: Sania Ambreen from the Department of Advertising and Marketing Management received this recognition for her exemplary technical support and dedication.

The event’s success was attributed to the guidance and efforts of the cultural coordinators, including Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Ms. Enakshi Dey Biswas, and Ms. Puja Kumari. Their meticulous planning and encouragement played a pivotal role in making the celebration memorable.
