Patna: Renowned political strategist and Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor has initiated an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan near the Gandhi statue in Bihar’s capital, Patna. The protest is aimed at highlighting the alleged collapse of the education system and widespread corruption in the examination process. Kishor, along with his supporters, is demanding the cancellation and re-conduction of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination, accusing authorities of selling more than half of the seats.
Speaking on the issue, Kishor remarked, “Over half the seats have already been sold, which is why the BPSC is refusing to conduct a re-exam.” His protest has drawn significant attention from the public, but it has also invited intervention from the district administration, which has issued a directive for him and his supporters to vacate the siteViolation of Administrative Rules and Court Orders
The Patna district administration has cited that Kishor’s protest at Gandhi Maidan violates administrative guidelines and the directives of the Patna High Court. According to the court’s ruling, protests and demonstrations in the city are restricted to the designated area in Gardanibagh. The administration has warned Kishor and his supporters to shift their demonstration immediately or face legal action..
A notice has been issued to Kishor and his organization, Jan Suraaj, stating that failure to comply with the directive will lead to an FIR and further legal proceedings. The administration emphasized that Gandhi Maidan is a prohibited area for protests and that holding a demonstration there undermines the rule of law.
Prashant Kishor and his organization have alleged serious irregularities in the conduct of the BPSC examination. They claim that the examination process is riddled with corruption, compromising the future of thousands of aspiring candidates. Kishor has called for the immediate cancellation of the flawed exam and the organization of a fresh, transparent examination to ensure justice for students.
“The future of Bihar’s youth is being jeopardized. This is not just an examination issue; it is about the systemic failure and injustice being meted out to the students,” Kishor stated during his protest. He further accused the state government and examination authorities of being complicit in the malpractice and called on the youth to unite against this injustice.
The district administration has maintained a firm position, asserting that the protest is unlawful and must be relocated to the designated site. Officials have reiterated that Gandhi Maidan is not an authorized venue for protests and demonstrations.
“As per the orders of the Patna High Court, Gardanibagh has been identified as the only location for holding demonstrations in the city. Protests at Gandhi Maidan are strictly prohibited,” an official statement from the administration read.
The administration’s notice to Kishor and his supporters underlines the legal consequences of non-compliance. “If the protest is not shifted to Gardanibagh immediately, legal action will be initiated,” the notice stated.
The hunger strike has sparked mixed reactions from the public and political circles. While many students and youth have rallied behind Kishor, praising his efforts to address corruption in the examination system, others have criticized the disruption caused by the unauthorized protest. Political analysts believe that Kishor’s move could escalate tensions between the administration and his organization, Jan Suraaj.
Prashant Kishor’s hunger strike underscores the larger issue of corruption and inefficiency in Bihar’s public service recruitment process. His allegations of seat-selling in the BPSC examination have raised serious questions about the integrity of the state’s examination system. The protest also highlights the ongoing struggle of Bihar’s youth, who often face challenges such as unemployment and lack of opportunities.
As the situation unfolds, the focus will remain on whether the government and examination authorities take concrete steps to address these allegations and ensure fairness in the recruitment process. Meanwhile, Kishor’s determination to continue his hunger strike signals that the battle for justice in Bihar’s education system is far from over.
