Rs 25 Crore Worth of Gold and Silver Looted in Broad Daylight

Bhojpur, Bihar | March 10, 2025

In a shocking incident that has rocked Bihar’s law enforcement agencies, armed criminals carried out the biggest jewelry heist in the state’s history. Six masked assailants looted approximately Rs 25 crore worth of gold and silver ornaments from a Tanishq jewelry showroom located at Gopali Chowk in Arrah, Bhojpur district. The daring robbery occurred in broad daylight, leaving the police scrambling to catch the culprits.

Meticulously Planned Robbery

The well-orchestrated heist took place around 10:30 AM on Monday morning. The showroom’s security protocol allows only four customers inside at a time, a rule that the criminals used to their advantage.

Two robbers first entered the showroom posing as regular customers. Shortly after, four more assailants joined them. Once all six were inside, they swiftly drew their firearms, threatening the manager at gunpoint. The criminals rounded up all employees and customers present, locking the showroom shutters from the inside to prevent anyone from escaping or alerting authorities.

The robbers then assaulted the security guard, seizing his firearm, and continued to terrorize the showroom for nearly 30 minutes. During this time, they filled bags with gold, silver, and diamond ornaments, along with substantial cash reserves. Despite multiple attempts by the showroom staff to contact the police emergency helpline (Dial 112), no immediate response was received. Staff members claimed they had called the helpline nearly 25 to 30 times but failed to get a response.

Delayed Police Response and Investigation

Surprisingly, despite such a high-profile crime occurring in a busy area, police authorities reportedly arrived at the scene only after the criminals had fled. The delay in police response has sparked significant public outrage and concern over law enforcement efficiency in the state.

In response to the heist, Bhojpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of SSP Parichay Kumar. The SIT has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation to track down the suspects. Police have imposed strict blockades at key checkpoints across Arrah and neighboring districts. CCTV footage from inside and outside the showroom is being reviewed to identify the criminals.

Crime Wave in Bihar Raises Concerns

The incident has reignited political debate over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar. Several leaders have voiced their concerns regarding the increasing frequency of organized crime in the state.

Recent major incidents highlight this worrying trend:

  • January 2025: Rs 10 crore worth of jewelry was stolen in a daring robbery in Patna.
  • December 2024: A major bank heist was carried out in Bhagalpur.
  • November 2024: A jewelry store in Muzaffarpur was targeted, resulting in losses estimated at Rs 12 crore.

The successive incidents have sparked anxiety among business owners and traders, who are demanding stricter security measures and improved policing.

Authorities Under Pressure

Following the Arrah robbery, Bihar’s political landscape has seen heightened tension. Opposition leaders have criticized the state government for failing to curb rising crime rates. Business associations and citizens have urged authorities to increase security around commercial hubs and jewelry stores, especially during business hours.

Local police have assured the public that efforts are being intensified to bring the culprits to justice. “We are examining all possible leads and will ensure those responsible are held accountable,” stated SSP Parichay Kumar.

Meanwhile, the SIT continues its investigation, focusing on possible connections to organized crime networks operating in Bihar and neighboring states.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

Authorities have urged jewelry store owners to adopt enhanced security measures, including alarm systems, additional CCTV cameras, and stricter access controls. Police have also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to their nearest police station.

The brazen daylight robbery in Bhojpur has exposed glaring gaps in Bihar’s law enforcement system, raising urgent questions about public safety and security in the region.
