Patna: A tragic incident unfolded on Friday at Marine Drive in Patna’s Digha police station area, where a young couple took their own lives in a shocking act of love and despair. The young man first shot his partner in the head before turning the weapon on himself, leading to an immediate outcry and raising concerns over the growing trend of suicide among young lovers.
According to eyewitness accounts, the couple had been sitting on the steps of Janardan Ghat for a long time before gunshots were suddenly heard. Locals rushed to the scene, only to find the two lying in a pool of blood. Authorities were immediately notified, and the Digha police arrived at the spot, taking both bodies into custody. A country-made pistol, two empty bullet shells, and a bag were recovered from the location.

Based on the recovered Aadhaar card, the young man was identified as 20-year-old Rahul Raj, a resident of Nand Nagar, Kachanrwa Kachua, in Madhubani district. Rahul was pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) degree while residing in Patna. The young woman, identified as Surbhi Kumari, hailed from Lalganj in the Vaishali district. According to Rahul’s father, the family had already accepted Surbhi, and they had no objection to their marriage.

Senior police officials, including City SP Sweety Sahrawat, Law and Order DSP Dinesh Pandey, and Digha police station in-charge, reached the crime scene to assess the situation. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts and a dog squad were also called to gather further evidence. The police are questioning people from the vicinity to determine the exact sequence of events and any underlying causes behind this tragic incident.
