Passenger Bus Catches Fire on Mahatma Gandhi Setu, No Casualties Reported

A major accident was averted when a passenger bus caught fire on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu while traveling from Hajipur to Patna. The incident occurred near pillar number 14 of the bridge, causing panic among over 40 passengers on board. Thankfully, all passengers managed to escape the burning vehicle in time, avoiding any casualties.

Incident Details

The bus, had started its journey from Laheriasarai around 5 AM, heading towards Gandhi Maidan in Patna. As the bus approached pier number 14 on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu, passengers noticed smoke and flames emerging from the vehicle. The driver promptly stopped the bus, allowing all passengers to disembark before the fire engulfed the entire vehicle. Within moments, the bus was consumed by flames.

Fire Response

Upon receiving the report of the fire, emergency services, including fire brigade teams from Patna, Danapur, and Hajipur, rushed to the spot with about six fire engines. Local residents and onlookers also assisted in controlling the fire. After hours of rigorous efforts, the firefighters managed to douse the flames, but by then, the bus was completely reduced to ashes.

The fire caused a massive traffic jam on both lanes of the bridge, as vehicles came to a halt amidst the chaos. Authorities, including the police, worked for several hours to clear the congestion and resume the traffic flow. The incident created long queues of vehicles on the bridge, impacting commuters traveling between Hajipur and Patna.
