Patna: The two-day Bihar Times Conclave 2024, held at Hotel Maurya, concluded today with a celebration of 25 years of Bihar’s first English-language web portal, Bihar Times. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the pioneering journey of the web portal, which began in 1999 during a time when Patna had just 100 internet connections. The conclave also discussed the potential role of talented Biharis worldwide in contributing to the state’s development.
The highlight of the second day was a heartfelt recognition of the journalists who supported the inception of Bihar Times. The portal’s founder shared insights into the challenges faced when launching an English web portal in Bihar’s nascent digital landscape. At that time, several journalists contributed serious articles without monetary compensation, demonstrating unparalleled dedication to their craft.

These individuals, through their free services, helped establish Bihar’s first English web portal, setting an exemplary standard for journalism. Their contributions were hailed as a testament to journalistic integrity and commitment.
The inaugural session of the conclave, held on the first day, featured discussions on Bihar’s potential for development. Subhash Kumar Patwari, President of the Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries, emphasized the immense talent of Biharis. “Thousands of people from Bihar are working in countries like the USA and England. If they think about Bihar’s development, the state is bound to progress,” he stated.
Patwari also highlighted the importance of events like the Bihar Times Conclave in motivating expatriates to contribute to their homeland. The ceremony was formally inaugurated by Anuradha Prasad, General Manager of SIDBI, Dr. Satyajit, Director of Ruban Hospital, and Retired General Abhay Krishna, who lit the ceremonial lamp. Other dignitaries, including Ajay Kumar, were also present.
Retired General Abhay Krishna addressed the gathering with insights into the capabilities of India’s armed forces and their potential contributions to Bihar’s development. “For the past 250 years, the Indian Army has successfully outperformed neighboring countries. If the talent of retired soldiers is utilized for Bihar’s progress, it can make a significant difference,” he said.
He elaborated on how the strategic thinking that led to victories in conflicts like the Kargil War and the 1971 India-Pakistan War could be leveraged for developmental purposes. “The Indian Army has always won through intellect. Using the talent of military personnel effectively could transform Bihar,” he added.
The conclave shed light on the contributions of the global Bihari diaspora. With many working in diverse industries across the world, their expertise and resources were identified as crucial elements for Bihar’s growth. The discussions also emphasized the importance of building bridges between these expatriates and the state to foster investment and innovation.
