Patna, April 15, 2025: A revolutionary advancement in orthopedic surgery was demonstrated today at Akshat Seva Sadan, where the MIROS Technique was used for the first time in Bihar. The minimally invasive procedure allows for complex bone fracture surgeries without traditional incisions or general anesthesia, offering a safer and more efficient alternative for high-risk patients.
MIROS (Minimally Invasive Reduction and Osteosynthesis System) is a cutting-edge surgical method designed primarily for treating fractures in the upper limbs, especially the proximal humerus, distal radius, and tibial shaft. The technique utilizes flexible K-wires (Kirschner wires), inserted through fractured bone fragments and secured externally using special clamps. This reduces the need for traditional open surgery, minimizes blood loss, and accelerates healing.
Developed by Dr. Mario Tangri of Italy, MIROS is especially beneficial for elderly patients with osteoporotic bones and in settings with limited surgical infrastructure.
For the first time in the state, Dr. Amulya Kumar Singh successfully performed surgeries using the MIROS technique. Two high-risk patients benefitted from the minimally invasive procedure:
Dr. Amulya Kumar Singh emphasized that MIROS aims to provide faster recovery, reduced complications, and minimally invasive fracture repair—especially in patients who cannot undergo traditional surgical procedures.
Some standout benefits include:
The flexible K-wires used in the procedure allow for micro-movements, which promote natural bone regeneration. The approach also reduces soft tissue damage, a common drawback in traditional open surgeries.
The demonstration and discussion of the MIROS technique at Akshat Seva Sadan saw participation from a team of renowned doctors including Dr. S. Nayanam, Dr. Chandrakant, Dr. J. Chaudhary, Dr. Rohit, Dr. Manish, and Dr. Tej Pratap. Staff from Akshat Seva Sadan also played an integral role in the successful implementation of this pioneering procedure.
The institution reiterated its commitment to providing the best possible medical care and introducing the latest global technologies to ensure faster and safer recovery for patients.
With this milestone, Akshat Seva Sadan and Dr. Singh have brought global innovation in orthopedic care to the heart of Bihar—marking a hopeful new chapter for fracture treatment in the region.
