Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 through a video message, praising Bihar’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lit the ceremonial torch at the grand opening held at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Kankarbagh, Patna. The event commenced with a cultural extravaganza featuring a soulful performance by noted folk singer Maithili Thakur and a musical narration of Bihar’s glorious history by acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi.
In his address, CM Nitish Kumar expressed immense pride in Bihar hosting the national-level youth sports competition for the first time, thanking Prime Minister Modi for launching the event through his message. He also extended a warm welcome to Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and applauded athletes arriving from across the country.
The CM highlighted that the Khelo India Youth Games, launched in 2018 by the central government, have been instrumental in nurturing talent. He stated that Bihar was honored to be entrusted with hosting duties for 2025, and the games are being held across five districts—Patna, Gaya, Nalanda (Rajgir), Bhagalpur, and Begusarai. He personally reviewed preparations in Patna, Gaya, and Rajgir, emphasizing ongoing investments in sports infrastructure with support from both the state and central governments.
He mentioned that over 367 outstanding athletes have already received direct government jobs under the state’s sports policy. Major infrastructure developments such as the Patliputra Sports Complex and the Rajgir Sports Academy and University have been completed. A new Department of Sports was also established in 2024 to strengthen the sports ecosystem in the state.
Referring to the Union Budget announcements in July 2024 and February 2025, CM Kumar acknowledged the Centre’s support, which included provisions for road development, healthcare, tourism, flood control, the establishment of a Makhana Board, a greenfield airport, a national food processing institute, and expansion of IIT Patna.
The CM once again thanked PM Modi for virtually inaugurating the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 and acknowledged the contributions of all officials, athletes, and dignitaries who made the event successful.
Before the formal commencement of the ceremony, the Chief Minister toured the Patliputra Sports Complex, greeting guests and athletes with warm gestures.
During the event, Bihar Sports Minister Surendra Mehta welcomed the Chief Minister with a symbolic memento. The gathering was also addressed by Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Sports Minister Surendra Mehta.
Also present on the occasion were Union Ministers of State Rakhi Nikhil Khadse (Youth Affairs & Sports), Ramnath Thakur (Agriculture), Bihar ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Dr. Prem Kumar, Jivesh Kumar, Sanjay Saraogi, Sheela Kumari, Hari Sahni, MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, and senior officials including Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Principal Secretary to CM Deepak Kumar, DGP Vinay Kumar, and others.
Athletes and coaches from every corner of the country gathered to participate in the Games, marking a proud chapter in Bihar’s sporting journey.
