Patna, December 22, 2024 – In a joint operation, the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and Katihar district police arrested seven active members of the notorious Shankar Yadav gang in Katihar district. The operation was carried out following a case of extortion and threats reported in the Salmari police station area on December 19, 2024.

- Dilkhush Kumar (Son of Chandradev Prasad Yadav, Srinagar Charapatti, Sahebpur Kamal Police Station, Begusarai District)
- Rahul Kumar (Son of Virendra Singh, Ladkani Tola, Nagar Police Station, Katihar District)
- Mukesh Kumar Singh (Son of Pradeep Kumar Singh, Salmari Chhagadhiya Tola, Salmari Police Station, Katihar District)
- Sonelal Sahni (Son of Buddhan Sahni, near Kali Mandir, Salmari Police Station, Katihar District)
- Guddu Kumar Singh (Son of Jayprakash Singh, Pindalah, Salmari Police Station, Katihar District)
Background of the Crime
On December 19, 2024, the Shankar Yadav gang demanded ₹50 lakh as extortion from a rice mill owner in the Salmari police station area of Katihar district via mobile. The gang threatened to kill the owner if the demand was not met.
Swift Police Action
The STF’s special team and Katihar police conducted a raid in the Salmari police station area on December 21, 2024, and apprehended all seven accused. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Case Number 102/24 at Salmari Police Station, including sections 308(5) and 111(1) of the Indian Penal Code.
Criminal History of the Accused
- Santosh Chaudhary alias Tarzan: Has multiple cases of loot, murder, extortion, and violations of the Arms Act registered across various police stations in Katihar and Munger districts.
- Sonelal Sahni: Has several cases of murder, extortion, and Arms Act violations registered at Salmari Police Station in Katihar district.
Police Statement
Police officials stated that all the arrested individuals are active members of the Shankar Yadav gang. The authorities are intensifying efforts to control organized crime at both district and state levels.
