Patna, August 3: The All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO) and the All India Students Federation (AISF) organized a solidarity march in response to the killings of children and women in Palestine. The march began at GPO Golambar and culminated in a gathering at Buddha Smriti Park. The event was conducted by Jayprakash, the Patna district general secretary of AIPSO.
The march saw participation from Patna’s citizens, intellectuals, social activists, students, and youths.
Chanting slogans such as “Why are children and women being killed in Palestine? Israel-American government, answer us”, “Long live Palestine”, “Down with the Israeli government”, “Stop sending Indian laborers to Israel”, “Stop sending military supplies to Israel”, and “Implement India’s independent foreign policy”, the march proceeded from Station Golambar to Buddha Park.
AIPSO General Secretary Sarvodaya Sharma addressed the gathering, stating, “People who believe in democracy worldwide are standing in solidarity with Palestine. Ignoring institutions like the United Nations, America is providing military aid to Israel. On this international day, we, the people of India, are standing with the unfortunate people of Palestine.”
AIPSO state general secretary Anish Ankur noted, “The All India Peace and Solidarity Organization is affiliated with the World Peace Council, which has observer status at the United Nations. Palestine is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. People are dying not just from bombings but also from diseases. Sixty percent of the buildings in Gaza Strip and the West Bank have been destroyed, leaving only fifteen hospitals operational. On one hand, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is giving his fourth speech to the U.S. Congress, while on the other, American citizens are protesting in the streets.”
Social and political activist Arun Kumar Mishra remarked, “Any humane person would stand with Palestine. According to the medical journal Lancet, 186,000 people have been killed. In 1948, Palestinians were deprived of their homeland under the name of Nakba. Today, the Modi government is avoiding support for Palestine. We must support Palestine fearlessly.”
Renowned poet Aditya Kamal recited his poetry focused on Palestine, while dramatist Gautam Gulal and poet Raju Kumar also performed poems by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
Social activist Balgovind commented, “The conflict between Palestine and Israel has persisted for a long time. Hospitals and schools in Palestine have been destroyed, and thousands have died. After World War II, Israel was established with the support of Britain and America. This is a conspiracy by Britain and America to seize control of natural gas in Palestine.”
ISKAF General Secretary Ravindra Nath Rai said, “Whenever there is talk of war, there will be talk of peace. The greed for capital is responsible for the conflict in Palestine.”
Advocate Uday Thakur stated, “The infants dying and the women becoming widows are just like us, trying to live in this world. We need to raise our voices against this.”
Social activist Johar added, “Israel and America are the most oppressive countries in the world. The freedom of Palestine is the freedom of humanity. The struggle for Palestine’s advancement has been ongoing since the time of Yasser Arafat.”
Udayan, a social activist associated with NAPM, noted, “In 1948, Palestine gave refuge to Israel, but Israel began to displace them. Two wars occurred in 1948 and 1967. In 1967, Israel won the war alone in seven days, but this time, Palestine has not been defeated even after seven months. We should protest by naming Israeli and American companies.”
The solidarity gathering was addressed by AITUC leader DP Yadav, advocate Shagufta Rashid, social activist Preeti Singh, AISF student leaders Aditya Rakesh and Manish Kumar, INTUC’s Akhilesh Pandey, and All India Kisan Sabha’s coordinator Gopal Sharma.
AIPSO Patna district general secretary Bhola Sharma, Irfan Ahmed Fatmi of Tanjim-e-Insaf, Sunil Singh of the Progressive Writers Association, Bhola Paswan of the Primary Teachers Association, writers Arun Singh and Roshan Kumar, Sujit Kumar, Mohammad Kaiser, Rajkumar, Abhishek Vidrohi, Tausiq Alam, Meer Saif Ali, Sarthak Kumar, Mohammad Bablu, and Rahul were also present.
