Patna Student Secures 99.65 Percentile, AIR 80 in UGC-NET JRF Examination
Patna, September 1, 2026: A Patna-based student has brought laurels to the city by securing the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in the UGC-NET examination, achieving an impressive 99.65 percentile and All India Rank (AIR) 80 in Psychology.
The achievement marks the culmination of a three-attempt journey marked by consistent improvement. In the first attempt, the student qualified for PhD eligibility, followed by qualifying NET in the second attempt, and finally securing JRF with an All India Rank of 80 in the third attempt.
The student completed matriculation from St. Dominic Savio’s High School, securing a perfect 10 CGPA. Intermediate education was also completed from St. Dominic Savio’s High School in the Science stream, where the student scored 75 per cent.
Pursuing an interest in psychology, the student completed a B.A. in Psychology from Anugrah Narayan College, securing First Division. This was followed by an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Delhi, where the student again secured First Division.JRF, or Junior Research Fellowship, is the highest qualification category offered through the UGC-NET examination for candidates aspiring to pursue academic and research careers. A JRF-qualified candidate becomes eligible for Assistant Professor positions, as well as PhD and research opportunities with fellowship support.
According to UGC provisions, a JRF recipient receives a fellowship of ₹37,000 per month during the initial two years, which can rise to ₹42,000 per month at the Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) stage, along with applicable contingency assistance. The fellowship can be availed for a maximum period of five years, subject to the applicable rules.
The level of competition can be gauged from the June 2026 UGC-NET results. Across all 84 subjects, 6,07,151 candidates appeared for the examination, while only 4,241 candidates qualified in the JRF and Assistant Professor category—approximately 0.70 per cent of the total candidates.
Competition in Psychology was equally intense. According to the NTA’s June 2026 Psychology result, only 116 candidates across all categories were awarded JRF.
Reflecting on the achievement, the student said that securing 99.65 percentile and AIR 80 in Psychology was not merely an examination result but the outcome of a journey of continuous improvement over three attempts.
