Patna, February 25, 2025: President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, attended the centenary celebrations of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) today as the chief guest. The special event, held at the Bapu Auditorium of the Samrat Ashok Convention Center, was also graced by Bihar Governor Shri Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar.
In her address, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the historical significance of PMCH, stating that the institution has played a crucial role in medical education and healthcare services in the country for the past 100 years. She commended the Bihar government’s efforts in expanding healthcare facilities and expressed confidence that PMCH would continue to progress further in the coming years.
President Murmu acknowledged that PMCH has been a vital medical institution not only for Bihar but for the entire nation. Established on February 25, 1925, the institution has trained thousands of doctors and provided excellent healthcare services to patients from Bihar and other states.
She emphasized the importance of medical education and healthcare services for societal development. Addressing doctors and medical professionals, she urged them to serve patients with dedication and contribute to the nation’s well-being.
President Murmu praised Bihar’s progress in healthcare expansion. She noted that the state government has taken significant steps in recent years to strengthen medical education and hospital infrastructure.
She applauded Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar’s initiatives, particularly the plan to transform PMCH into a world-class hospital with 5,400 beds. Additionally, she recognized the establishment of new medical colleges and hospitals, which will enhance healthcare accessibility for the people of Bihar.
The President lauded the Bihar government’s initiative to provide free medicines and treatment in government hospitals, which has greatly benefited the public. She stressed the need for increasing the number and quality of primary health centers to ensure that rural populations also receive adequate medical care.
She also appreciated the plan to expand IGIMS (Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences) into a 3,000-bed hospital, calling it a significant achievement for Bihar. Encouraging doctors and medical students, she urged them to uphold integrity and commitment in patient care.
On this occasion, PMCH Principal Dr. Vidyapati Chaudhary presented a green plant to President Droupadi Murmu as a token of welcome. The President appreciated this initiative, emphasizing that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility and should be a priority even in the healthcare sector.
